Lists compiled by Kevin Sheard in Academic Heraldry in America (1962) and Academic Dress and Insignia of the World (1970) described the hood lining of Chestnut Hill College as gold above brown, divided per chevron. This was apparently a hood lining pattern adopted by the college without official approval from the IBAC, which published only a single record for the college: a 1972 list that cited a generic “gold with brown chevron” design that duplicated the hood lining the Bureau had assigned Adelphi College between 1895 and 1902. Chestnut Hill had no doubt adopted a per chevron pattern to avoid this very problem, without the help of the Intercollegiate Bureau.

Students at Chestnut Hill College adopted brown and gold as their school colors in 1928. Vintage memorabilia from the college display dark brown and bright gold (or yellow) colors.

Note that the college seal features a reversed gray chevron. A more appropriate hood lining pattern for Chestnut Hill may therefore be a brown lining with an inverted gold chevron.
