The school color of Westminster Theological Seminary is royal blue, but detailed historical information about how or when this color was chosen is not available at this time.
The Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) must have assigned Westminster Theological Seminary a royal blue hood lining in the late 1940s or 1950s, because a citation for the seminary’s hood first appears in Kevin Sheard’s Academic Heraldry in America, published in 1962. Here and in an IBAC list from 1972, Westminster’s hood lining is described as having a single color of royal blue.
The Bureau had formerly assigned a royal blue hood lining to Newark University, but this institution merged with Rutgers University in 1946.
