A 1942 "rat cap" for a Freshman and a varsity letterman's sweater from the same period.

It is not clear whether the University of Tampa was assigned an official hood lining pattern by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC). A 1972 list by the Bureau described the university’s hood as black above gold with a red horizontal bar. But a citation by Kevin Sheard only two years earlier in Academic Dress and Insignia of the World stated that Tampa’s lining was black with two chevrons: the upper one gold and the lower one red.

Because a vintage University of Tampa hood has not been found to determine which pattern (if either) the university originally used, here the pattern recorded by the Intercollegiate Bureau has been privileged.
