Inspired by the beauty of the yellow and green Tickseed wildflowers growing on campus, students chose green and gold as the school colors of Oklahoma Baptist University not long after the institution was founded in 1910.

Academic hood lists published by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) in 1948 and 1972 described Oklahoma Baptist University as having a hood lined green with a gold chevron, and a list compiled by Kevin Sheard in Academic Heraldry in America (1962) described the university’s hood lining in an identical way.
