Academic hood lists published by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) in 1927, 1948, and 1972 described Lynchburg College as having a hood lined crimson with a dark gray chevron. Because the Intercollegiate Bureau only cites the school as “Lynchburg College” (and never as “Virginia Christian College”), the official IBAC hood lining assignment must have been between 1919 (when the college’s new name was adopted) and 1927 (when the Bureau’s list was published), and the sample of gray the college sent to the Bureau was dark. A list compiled by Kevin Sheard in Academic Heraldry in America (1962) described Lynchburg’s hood lining as crimson with a gray (not dark gray) chevron. Here the original IBAC lining assignment from the 1919 to 1927 period has been retained, with a dark gray chevron.
