Additional research is needed about the scarlet and navy blue school colors of Cleary University. Today the university’s red appears to have darkened to a cardinal or crimson shade.
Cleary College does not appear in early Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) lists from 1927 or 1948, so the IBAC may not have assigned the college a hood lining until the late 1940s or 1950s. A list compiled by Kevin Sheard in Academic Heraldry in America (1962) described Cleary’s hood lining as navy blue with a scarlet reversed chevron, which was also how it was described in an IBAC list from 1972.
