A c.1912 tobacco silk for “Kentucky State University” from Richmond Straight Cut Cigarettes. The manufacturer has erroneously combined information from two different universities. The name “Kentucky State University” and the wildcat mascot are from the university that in 1916 became the “University of Kentucky”. But the crimson and gold colors and alma mater lyrics are from “Kentucky University” which – because of confusion like this – had changed its name to “Transylvania University” in 1908.
A Kentucky Wesleyan College postcard from the c.1907 "University Girl" series illustrated by F. Earl Christy. The colors of the college were actually purple and white.
