Detailed historical information about the purple and gold school colors of Southwestern Bible Institute is not available at this time.

The Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) never officially authorized a hood lining pattern for Southwestern Bible Institute, but lists compiled by Kevin Sheard in Academic Heraldry in America (1962) and Academic Dress and Insignia of the World (1970) described the college’s hood lining as purple with a gold reversed chevron. This duplicated the hood lining the IBAC had officially assigned Alabama College (today Montevallo University), so to resolve this problem and avoid confusion with the hood lining of Defiance College, Southwestern Assemblies of God University has been reassigned a hood lined purple with three reversed gold chevrons.
