Detailed historical information about the navy blue and Kelly green colors of Endicott College is not available at this time.
Endicott College began conferring doctoral degrees in 2012, a little over thirty years after Cotrell & Leonard, the depository for the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume, went out of business. As a result, the Bureau never assigned Endicott an official hood lining pattern.
The college is using a hood lined navy blue with a Kelly green chevron. Unfortunately, this pattern is indistinguishable from the hood lining the Intercollegiate Bureau assigned Drew University in 1907 or 1908. To avoid this problem, the Intercollegiate Registry of Academic Costume has interchanged the colors and assigned Endicott College a hood lined Kelly green with a navy blue chevron.
In 2012 Endicott College adopted a “custom” doctoral gown that is blue with black velvet facings and sleeve bars edged with bright green piping. Two embroidered patches of the college seal are sewn to the upper part of the gown’s facings. The hood is of a standard pattern, with black exterior fabric. To the left is a photograph of this gown from the University Cap & Gown Company (Balfour). The blue fabric of the gown is considerably lighter than the college’s official navy blue.
