It is not known when the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume (IBAC) assigned a hood lining to Simpson College, but the college is cited as having a red hood lining with an old gold chevron in a 1927 IBAC list. The same IBAC list included two other institutions using a similar hood lining (crimson with an old gold chevron): Alabama A&M and Austin College. But the colors of Alabama A&M were actually maroon and white, and the colors of Austin College were actually crimson and gold (not old gold) – information that would be corrected in later IBAC lists. At the same time, the hood lining description for Simpson (red with an old gold chevron) was repeated without change in subsequent Intercollegiate Bureau lists.
